Birth/Baptism
Edward Garvey, son of Hugh and Anne (nee Markey) Garvey, was born Sep. 21, 1879, in Lisnafeddaly, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, according to his baptism record. I have not been able to find a copy of Edward Garvey's civil registration birth register record, though I have obtained a copy of his baptism record. Emigration/Immigration
Edward Garvey, decided to leave Ireland and move to the U.S.A. I have obtained a copy of both Edward's Passenger List Index Card, and a copy of Edward's Passenger List. Edward's passenger info shows he traveled to the U.S. port of Philadelphia, PA. He sailed on the ship S.S. Pennland. The S.S. Pennland set sail from the port of Liverpool, England, on February 14, 1900, arriving at Philadelphia March 2, 1900. New Jersey State Census Records

U.S. Citizenship
Edward Garvey had taken his first step towards American citizenship before June of 1905, the month of the 1905 New Jersey State census. Column 13 of the 1905 New Jersey State census entry for Edward has the value 'PA'. A value of 'PA' indicates the person was foreign born and had filed a Declaration Of Intent, also know as the person's 'first papers', to become an American citizen.
Edward followed up on his U.S. citizenship process when, on March 21, 1905, Edward filed his Petition For Naturalization with the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Canden, New Jersey. To view a copy of Edward's Petition For Naturalization, click here.
