Intro
My individual Kernan line is currently traced back to my great, great, great grandfather Peter Kernan, who was living the townland of Lisnafeddaly, in Magheross parish, in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, probably as far back as the early 1800s. Peter's wife was a woman whose maiden named was Catherine McArdle. I would think Catherine McArdle was also from Co. Monaghan.

Kernan Tithe
I have found a reference to a person named Peter Kernan, in Magheross parish, in the Tithe Applotment Books, of 1823 - 1837. There is an entry for Peter Kernan in the townland of Corcuillogue. I don't know whether the Peter Kernan in the townland of Corcuillogue is the same Peter Kernan as my 3rd great grandfather, or not. However, the Tithe Applotment Book record certainly establishes a Kernan presence in the Carrickmacross area of Co. Monaghan, at least as far back as the year 1823.
