Marriage
A man named James McCabe married a woman named Margaret Flynn, on February 9, 1834, in Monasterboice Catholic parish, in Co. Louth, Ireland. I have obtained a copy of the page of the church marriage register that includes the James McCabe / Margaret Flynn marriage entry. To view a copy of the James McCabe / Margaret Flynn church marriage register entry I have obtained, click
here. The James McCabe / Margaret Flynn church marriage register record is the only record I have for James and Margaret that has Margaret's last name spelled Flinn. As such, I use the Flynn spelling through out my James McCabe and Margaret Flynn web pages.

Monasterboice is a parish a bit to the south of Mosstown parish. It is parish number 45 on the map of Co. Louth parishes. Though James and Margaret were married in Monasterboice parish, they lived in the townland of Cookspark, located in Mosstown parish, within Co. Louth, after they were married.

The James McCabe and Margaret Flynn church marriage register record includes two witnesses to the marriage, a Patt McCabe and a John McCabe. There was a Patt McCabe and a John McCabe, living in the Mosstown parish townland of Cookspark, at the time of the James McCabe and Margaret Flynn marriage. That makes me wonder if the James McCabe that married Margaret Flynn was James, the son of John McCabe and Elizabeth Mullen of Cookspark. John McCabe and Elizabeth Mullen did live in Cookspark, and did have sons named James, Patt and John. I know the Cookspark couple Luke McCabe and Bridget (nee McGahan) McCabe also had sons named James, either of which could have been the James McCabe that married Margaret Flynn. Luke and Bridget also had a son named Patrick, but they did not have a son named John.

Offspring
James and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe had eleven children that I am aware of. I have listed the names of those children in the table below. To browse any additional info I have obtained and posted to the internet for any of the individual children, click on the links in the table.

I have reviewed the names of the male children of James and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe. It is interesting to note four of those children are named Patt, John, Peter and James. Those four names are also the names of four of the five male children I have attributed to the Cookspark couple John McCabe and various Elizabeths. I am speculating that the James McCabe that married Margaret Flynn was a brother of Patt, Henry, Peter and John, four of the children of John McCabe and various Elizabeths of Cookspark. If correct, that would make the James of James McCabe and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe a great, great uncle of mine.

Note also that James and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe had two sons whose first names were Luke. I have speculated that their first son Luke died as a small child. As such, I have documented their second Luke as the husband of Anne McEnleer. I really do NOT have any proof that I am correct on that point. Considering the Luke McCabe / Anne McEnleer marriage appears to have lasted less than 15 years, and produced no offspring, I'm not sure how much my possible inaccuracy might matter.

Irish Census Records
I have found a 1901 Irish census record for a McCabe family in the townland of Cookspark. The head of the family is a woman named Margaret McCabe. I wonder if this particular census could be for James McCabe's wife Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe. The 1901 Irish census record shows Margaret's age as 88. If accurate, that would put Margaret's birth sometime around 1813. That, it seems to me, would make Margaret old enough to have been the Margaret that married James McCabe in 1834.

The 1901 Margaret McCabe Cookspark census record includes three children, Patrick, Bridget and Margaret. James McCabe and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe did have a son named Patrick and a daughter named Margaret. The problem is, they did not have a daughter named Bridget. They did have a daughter that was baptized as Mary McCabe. Mary's age nearly matches the age shown on the Margaret McCabe 1901 census record for Bridget. Who knows, maybe Mary was Mary Bridget. Or, maybe the Bridget McCabe baptisim record has been lost over time.

I am including a link to the 1901 Margaret McCabe Cookspark 1901 Irish census record. To view a copy of that record, click here. There is also a 1911 Irish census record for a McCabe family in the towland of Cookspark. The three people listed in Cookspark in 1911 are Patrick, Bridget and Margaret, the same names that were listed with Margaret McCabe in the 1901 Irish census. To view a copy of the McCabe family in Cookspark in the 1911 Irish census records, click here.

McCabe Death Info
I have found what I believe is burial info for James McCabe and Margaret (Flynn) McCabe, and several of their children. The burial info is available on the internet. To view the available information, scroll down to the McCabe entry, after clicking on this Tombstone Inscriptions In Mosstown link. The only concern I have about this info is the mention of a sister names Bridget. James McCabe and Margaret Flynn McCabe did not have a daughter named Bridget, according to the baptism records I have obtained for their family. They did have a daughter whose baptism record shows the name Mary. Could the baptism record have recorded the wrong name? Could Mary have actually been Mary Bridget? This tombstone information is not the only Mary/Bridget conflict I have come across. Even though I do not know what is up with the Mary versus Bridget conflict, I am still confident this tombstone information is for the James McCabe and Margaret Flynn McCabe family.

Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe died February 28, 1902. I have obtained a copy of the Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe civil registration death register entry. To view a copy of the Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe civil registration death register entry I have obtained, click here.

I have found the death record for a Bridget McCabe in the townland of Cookspark, Co. Louth, Ireland. This specific Bridget McCabe died on Jan. 21, 1916. Could this be the Bridget in the above mentioned 1901 and 1911 Irish census records? The informant on this Bridget McCabe's death certificate is a Mr. Patrick McCabe, who is listed as being her brother. James McCabe and Margaret (nee Flynn) McCabe did have a son named Pat McCabe. Makes me wonder.
