The 1880 Dennis Murphy and family U.S. Federal census form for Philadelphia, PA has John's age listed as 23 years old. If any of the Dennis Murphy and family 1870 or 1880 U.S. Federal census forms for Philadelphia, PA are correct, it would put Dennis' birth date somewhere around 1856 - 1858. That works in well with the other Dennis and Mary (nee Vale/Veal/Veale) Murphy Catholic baptism records for the Ballydeague Parish, Co. Cork, Ire. Dennis and Mary's daughter Mary was baptized on Oct. 7, 1855. Dennis and Mary's son Patrick was baptized on Jun. 13, 1858. John's birth, per U.S. Federal census records, would appear to have occured between Mary and Patrick's births.

I am quite certain the included 1893 - 1895 John Murphy city directory entries are for my great uncle John Murphy as the address given in all three directories is the same 151 Allen St. address that is known to be the address of John Murphy's sister, Minnie (nee Murphy) Lauer, and her husband Joseph Lauer.

The 1895 death register for the city of Philadelphia, PA contains an entry for Dennis and Mary Murphy's son John Murphy. John's death is recorded on page 84 of the 1895 Death Register for the city of Philadelphia, PA. A copy of John J. Murphy's death record has been obtained. Notification of John J. Murphy's death appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper, in Philadelphia, PA, on Saturday, August 10, 1895. The notice invited relatives and friends of the family to his funeral at the residence of his brother-in-law Joseph Lauer. The address given was 151 Allen street. Murphy was the first known death of any of Dennis and Mary (nee Veal) Murphy's offspring away from the 225 N. Front St. address.
John J. Murphy died Thursday, August 8,1895. He was buried in the same family plot as his parents and two siblings, in New Cathedral Cemetery, Monday, August 12, 1895.
