Arthur William McCabe
Son of Dr. Nicholas and
Mary (nee O'Connor) McCabe
Though Arthur's WWI draft registration card does not specify that he was at St. Mary's College, further research was done into that possibility.
In 1890 the students of St.Mary's College began their own pulication called The Dial (see St. Mary's History). I was able to review copies of The Dial at the Kansas State Historical Society, in Topeka, KS. I have obtained a copy of page 43 of the October 1917 edition of The Dial. Page 43 is a page contained in the Alumni Notes section of that October 1917 edition of The Dial. Towards the bottom of page 43 is a note stating "Arthur McCabe, Fourth English '17, is one of Company K., First Battalion, Second Regiment, Camp Paul Jones, Great Lakes station." Camp Paul Jones, Great Lakes station is a reference to the US Navy's training camp in North Chicago, IL. To see an on line copy of page 43 of the Alumni Notes from the October, 1917 edition of The Dial click here.
It was already known that Arthur McCabe, son of Dr. Nicholas and Mary (nee o'Connor) McCabe, had joined the US Navy. Refer to the portion of the biography of Dr. Nicholas McCabe that talks of Dr. Nicholas' children. After serving in the US Navy during WWI Arthur returned to North Platte, NE.
Arthur was living in North Platte, NE in November of 1951 when he filled out his application for a social security number.
Arthur eventually moved to North Carolina and, at the age of 60 years old, married a woman named Grace Devine.
