Dr. Nicholas called North Platte home for the remainder of his career. He built up his practice as well as several other businesses. At one point he owned two pharmacies, a bar, and a hotel. He also owned 2,000 acres of land in the North Platte area. Dr. Nicholas also entered into politics. He was elected as mayor of North Platte for three consecutive terms, starting with the election of 1906.

Dr. Nicholas McCabe died in North Platte, NE on Aug. 8, 1922. He was buried in the North Platte Cemetery on Aug. 11, 1922. I have obtained a copy of Dr. Nicholas McCabe's death record. Mrs. Mary/Molly (nee O'Connor) McCabe, wife of Dr. Nicolas McCabe, died in North Platte, NE on Dec. 9, 1949. She was buried in the North Platte Cemetery on Dec. 12, 1949.
