John McCabe, son of John and Elizabeth (nee Mullen) McCabe, was baptized on August 4, 1816, in St. Brigid's Catholic church, in the town of Dunleer, in Co. Louth, Ireland. John McCabe most likely spent his youth growing up in and around the townland of Knockaleva, in Mosstown parish, in Co. Louth. On May 27, 1852 John McCabe and Margaret Murphy were married in St. Brigid's Catholic church in the town of Dunleer, in Co. Louth, Ireland.
