Marriage

Offspring
John McCabe and Margaret Murphy had at least ten children. Six of John and Margaret's children were born prior to Jan. 1, 1864, the day that the Irish Catholic civil registration laws went into effect. As such, the only records available for John and Margaret's first six children are their church records. I believe the dates given on the church records are the dates those children were baptized. It appears that a child's baptism, at least in John and Margaret's parish, was usually performed the day after the child was born. For those children born after the start of Irish Catholic civil registration, I have included both their church record and their civil registration record.
Note, all of the birth/baptism information is from microfilmed copies of either the Dunleer parish church records, or the Irish Civil Registration records, obtained through the LDS. I'm sorry, but some of these records are not very clear. Neither were the "original" microfilmed copies. Also, I consistently use the spelling MCCABE, even though the earilier church records spell the name MACABE.

Irish Census Records
John McCabe apparently died prior to the Irish census of 1901. I have obtained a copy of a page of the 1901 Irish census for the townland of Knockaleva, the townland John and Margaret lived in. The Knockaleva census record shows Margaret as a widow. It also shows her children Mary, John and James living there. One of John and Margaret's grand daughters, Maggie Maguire, is also living in the house in Knockaleva in the 1901 Irish census, leading to the discovery that John and Margaret's daughter Elizabeth married a man named Christopher Maguire. Note that form B.1 of this 1901 census for Margaret, shows the information for her household was collected on Apr. 17th of 1901. This allowed Margaret's grandaughter Maggie (Margaret) to be counted twice, once on 4/17, with her grandmother in Knockaleva, and once, on 4/4, with her father in Belpatrick.
