LARRY'S O'KEEFE FAMILY

Note: Throughout my O'Keefe pages I use the names Keefe and O'Keefe interchangeably, as was quite common in those days. I am trying to be consistent in spelling my great, great grandmother's maiden name as O'Brien, even though records for her do not always use that spelling.

My Keefes/O'Keefes came to the United States from Ireland and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They appear to have arrived in Philadelphia sometime around the early 1850s. My indiviual O'Keefe family line is currently traced back to my great, great, great grandparents, a couple named David and Margaret (nee xxx) Keefe/O'Keefe.

I obtained the name of my great, great grandfather O'Keefe, as well as, the name of my great, great grandmother O'Keefe from the death certificate of my great grandfather David O'Keefe. I have also discovered several older O'Keefs living in the same area of Philadelphia as my great, great grandparents. I am sure of the relationships between the people I have identified as children of old David and old Margaret.

I am quite certain my great, great grandfather John O'Keefe was a son of a couple named David and Margaret (nee xxx) Keefe/O'Keefe. I don't have any documentation definitively describing the relationship between my great, great grandfather John and the couple that I usually refer to as old David and old Margaret Keefe/O/Keefe. There are matching DNA test results though, between myself and a known direct descendant of old David and old Margaret's daughter Mary Keefe/O'Keefe. Michael and Mary
The 1859 Philadelphia, PA city directory has two listings for Michael Keefe. Both are listed at 5 Callowhill. One of the Michaels is listed as Keefe Michael, sen., or, senior. One of those Michael Keefs/O'Keefes was married to a woman named Mary.

John and Julia
There was a couple named John and Julia Keefe/O'Keefe in the 1860 U.S. Federal Census for Philadelphia, PA. John and Julia were living in the same North Front Street and Callowhill area as my Keefes/O'Keefes. I don't know if John and Julia were related to me.
