After they were married, John and Winifred moved to the Little Rock area of the State of Arkansas. John and Winifred are listed in the 1930 US census as living in Big Rock Township, in Pulaski County, in Arkansas. Pulaski County is the county that includes the city of Little Rock. John is listed in 1930 US census as working as a newspaper reporter. John and Winifred had a daughter named Eileen, listed as 4 months old, on their 1930 US census. The census shows Eileen's place of birth as Arkansas, which would mean that John and Winifred were living in Arkansas by 1929. John and Winifred packed up and moved from the Little Rock area. They moved to Ashville, North Carolina. I am not sure of when they moved to Ashville.

North Carolina was home to John and Winifred for the remainder of their lives. John worked as a teacher as did Winifred. John also wrote a book about the Cherokee Indians. John and Winifred also went on to have two additional children after Eileen.

John died, in Ashville, on November 21, 1978. He was buried in Lewis Memorial Park, in Ashville, North Carolina. I have obtained a copy of John's death record. Winifred had preceded John Nicholas in death by just a few months. Winifred died June 30, 1978. She was buried in Lewis Memorial Park, in Ashville, North Carolina. John and Winifred are buried in Section F, lot 466 of Lewis Memorial Park. Winifred is in grave 4 of the lot. John Nicholas is in grave 5.
