Clarence James McCabe
Son of Dr. Nicholas and
Mary (nee O'Conner) McCabe

Clarence James McCabe, son of Dr. Nicholas F. and Mary (nee O'Connor) McCabe, was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on December 13, 1897. I have not been able to find a copy of Clarence's birth record, but I did find a newspaper note that mentioned his birth. The note was in the December 14, 1897 edition of The North Platte Semi-Weekly Tribune newspaper. The newspaper note, published the day after Clarence's birth, did not include the baby's name, though I am certain it was Clarence. To read the newspaper note, click here.

Clarence probably spent most of his younger years in North Platte, NE. After high school, Clarence attended college at Notre Dame University, in South Bend, Indiana. Clarence left Notre Dame and joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp during World War One. Clarence served in France during the war. Clarence also attended the American Expeditionary Forces University, in France, after the war. After returning to the US, Clarence again took up classes at Notre Dame University, begining in the fall of 1919. Clarence graduated from Notre Dame June 12, 1922. Clarence earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in Journalism. To view a copy of Clarence's Notre Dame senior class picture, click here.

Work History - Prior To Marriage
Clarence held several jobs. One of those looks like a summer job back during the year 1920. Prior to graduating from Notre Dame, Clarence spent the summer of 1920 on the staff of the Omaha World Herald, in Omaha. NE. After graduating from Notre Dame, Clarence worked briefly for the Evening News, in Champaign, IL. Clarence left his job with the Evening News, and traveled to France, to marry a woman named Andrae Marie Charmoille.
