LARRY'S CO. LOUTH MURPHY FAMILY
Intro
I have traced my Co. Louth Murphy ancestors to the Ardee area of Co. Louth. Three townlands where my Co. Louth Murphys are known to have lived are in the parish of Kildemock. Kildemock parish is just outside the town of Ardee.
My individual Murphy line is currently traced back to my great, great, great grandparents, Nicholas and Betty (nee Carry/Corry/Carney) Murphy. I am not sure of the exact last name of Nicholas' wife. I have obtained 8 baptism records for children of a Nicholas Murphy. Seven of those records lists the mother's first name as Betty. One lists the mother's first name as Biddy. I don't have a problem believing all eight of those records are for the same mother, based on first name, even with the one name variation. The mother's last name is not as consistent. There are five records with the mother's last name listed as Carry, one recored with the mother's last name listed as Corry, and two records with the mother's last name listed as Carney.
I don't have an explanation for why there are so many mother's last names. I don't believe these records are for three different Nicholas Murphys, married to three different women. I am going to proceed as though there was just one couple. I will continue working on trying to determine if there were multiple Nicholas and Betty (nee Carry/Corry/Carney) Murphy couples.
