Marriage
Peter McCabe and Bridget Murphy were married in St. Brigid's Catholic church, in the town of Dunleer, in Co. Louth, Ireland. I have obtained a copy of the church marriage register showing Peter and Bridget's marriage. To view a copy of the Peter and Bridget marriage record I have obtained, click

I believe the Peter McCabe that married Bridget Murphy in St. Brigid's Catholic church, in the town of Dunleer, in Co. Louth, Ireland, was Peter McCabe, son of John McCabe and Betty Miles. I was reluctant to accept *that* Peter as Bridget's husband, considering the big difference in their ages. Then, I came across information, submitted to the Journal of the County Louth Archaeological and Historical Society, Vol. 18, No. 3, 1975, by Noel Ross. The Noel Ross info I am referring to is a list of "Families at Mosstown and Phillipstown in 1852". The list includes a couple, Peter and Bridget McCabe, living in the townland of Puckstown. Peter is shown as being 37 years old, while Bridget is shown as being just 22 years old. That is a 15 year age difference. That has allowed me to accept the idea that Peter was much older than Bridget. Peter McCabe, son of John McCabe and Betty Miles, would have actually been 40, or 41 years old, not 37, as reported, depending on when during the year, the 1852 list was compiled. Offspring
Peter McCabe and Bridget Murphy had at least nine children. Six of Peter and Bridget's children were born prior to Jan. 1, 1864, the day that the Irish Catholic civil registration laws went into effect. As such, the only records available for Peter and Bridget's first six children are their church records. I believe the dates given on the church records are the dates those children were baptized. It appears that a child's baptism, at least in Peter and Bridget's parish, was usually performed the day after the child was born. For those children born after the start of Irish Catholic civil registration, I have included both their church record and their civil registration record.

Note, all of the birth/baptism information is from microfilmed copies of either the Dunleer parish church records, or the Irish Civil Registration records, obtained through the LDS. I'm sorry, but some of these records are not very clear. Neither were the "original" microfilmed copies. Also, I consistently use the spelling MCCABE, even though the earilier church records spell the name MACABE.

Irish Census Records
I have obtained a copy of a page of the 1901 Irish census for the townland of Puckstown, one of the townlands Peter and Bridget lived in. The Puckstown census record shows Bridget as a widow. It also shows her children Mary, Margaret and Peter living there with her in Puckstown. One of Peter and Bridget's grandsons, James Byrne, is also living in the Bridget (nee Murphy) McCabe household, in Puckstown, in the 1901 Irish census, leading to the discovery that Peter and Bridget's daughter Elizabeth married a man named James Byrne. To view a copy of the 1901 Irish census record showing Bridget and her family click here.

Note that the 1901 Irish Census for Puckstown includes Form B.1. The Puckstown Form B1 has some interesting names of other people that were living in Puckstown when the 1901 Irish Census was taken. I believe some of the other people listed on Form B.1 may have been related to my McCabes of Peter and Bridget (nee Murphy) McCabe.

Peter McCabe Family and Descendants Death Info
I don't know exactly when my great, great grandfather Peter McCabe died. Peter was listed as dead on the marriage record of his oldest daughter Elizabeth, when Elizabeth married James Byrne, Feb. 7, 1893. I have been able to obtain a copy of a death record for a woman named Bridget McCabe. To view a copy of the Bridget McCabe death record I have obtained click here. The Bridget McCabe listed died in 1909. Her age is listed as 79. If accurate, she would have been born in 1830. That seems near correct for my great great grandmother. The witness listed on the death certificate is a person named Patrick McCabe. He is listed as Bridget's son. My great great grandparents Peter and Bridget did have a son named Patrick. Also, the place of death is listed as Whiteriver. That is one the townlands where Peter and Bridget lived after they were married.

I have summarized the information I have collected about my great, great grandparents and their children's deaths and burials in a table, showing the individual's name, their relationship to my great, great grandfather Peter McCabe, when they died and when and where they were buried. For those individuals for whom I have been able to obtain death and/or burial records, there are clickable links to the page or pages that lead to their death and/or burial information/documentation.
