Nicholas and Betty Murphy Facts
I have documented that I have a set of 3x great grandparents named Nicholas and Betty Murphy. Nicholas and Betty lived in townlands within the Kildemock Parish, of the Ardee area, of Co. Louth, Ireland. One of the children of my Nicholas and Betty Murphy ancestors was named John Murphy. Nicholas and Betty's son John Murphy was a brother of my 2x great grandmother Bridget Murphy, wife of Peter McCabe, and a brother of my 2x great aunt Margaret Murphy, wife of John McCabe.
Contention
I contend my 3x great grandparents, Nicholas and Betty Murphy, were the parents of the John Murphy that came to the U.S. and lived in the states of New York and Minnesota, the John Murphy that married a woman named Catherine Plunkett.
binmt
There is a person on Ancestry who has an Ancestry username of binmt. Binmt is a granddaughter of a couple named John E. and Alice (nee Dinneen) Murphy, of Waseca County, Minnesota. The John E. Murphy that married Alice Dinneen was a son of John H. and Margaret (nee Carmody) Murphy, of Waseca County, Minnesota. In others words, John H. and Margaret (nee Carmody) Murphy were a set of binmt's great grandparents.
Binmt has a direct DNA match to at least three of my relatives, my niece Megan McCabe, my 4th cousin Sheila McCoy and my 4th cousin Joan Rossillo. These binmt matches were determined by searching Megan's, Sheila's and Joan's DNA using binmt's maternal grandmother's maiden name, Dinneen.
After searching each of Megan's, Sheila's and Joan's DNA, using the name Dinneen, I then clicked on the binmt Ancestry username in the returned matches list. I then clicked on Shared Matches for binmt. In all three cases, two of the Ancestry usernames in the Shared Matches list for binmt were jedrab and patrick castaldo.
Please read the below section labeled Addendum - Mar. 2021.
jedrab
There is a person on Ancestry who has an Ancestry username of jedrab. Jedrab has traced a branch of his family tree back to his great grandparents John and Margaret (nee Carmody) Murphy, of Waseca County, Minnesota. Jedrab's great grandparents, John and Margaret (nee Carmody) Murphy, are the same couple as the great grandparents of binmt. In other words, jedrab and binmt are second cousins.
Jedrab has a direct DNA match to at least three of my relatives, my niece Megan McCabe, my 4th cousin Sheila McCoy and my 4th cousin Joan Rossillo. These jedrab matches were determined by scrolling through the all matches list for Megan's DNA, the all matches list for Sheila's DNA, and the all matches list for Joan's DNA.
patrick castaldo
Patrick Castaldo is a documented 4th cousin to me, a documented 4th cousin once removed to my niece Megan, and a documented 3rd cousin to my 4th cousins Sheila and Joan. Patrick Castaldo is also a documented 3x great grandson of my Nicholas and Betty Murphy 3x great grandparents.
The Ancestry username patrick castaldo appeared when I searched all three of Megan's, Sheila's and Joan's DNA, using the name Castaldo. After searching each of Megan's, Sheila's and Joan's DNA, using the name Castaldo, I then clicked on the patrick castaldo Ancestry username in the returned matches list. I then clicked on Shared Matches for patrick castaldo. In all three cases, the Ancestry username jedrab appeared in the Shared Matches list. For both Sheila and Joan, the Ancestry username binmt also appeared. So, per Ancestry DNA tests, Patrick Castaldo is definitely linked to the same Waseca County, MN Murphys as is my niece Megan and my 4th cousins Shelia and Joan.
CONCLUSION
I feel about 99.999% certain that the John Murphy who married Catherine Plunkett, the John Murphy who fathered the John Murphy that married Margaret Carmody in Waseca County, Minnesota, was John Murphy, son of my 3x great grandparents, Nicholas and Betty Murphy. I hope I am not being overly biased here. If anyone else researching this Waseca County, Minnesota Murphy family believes my conclusion to be incorrect, please contact me. I would be more than happy to consider any other alternatives.

Addendum - Mar. 2021
During the latter half of the year 2020 Ancestry.com made at least 2 changes to how they report DNA matches. Ancestry.com is no longer reporting matches of less than 8 centimorgans. Formerly, they reported on matches down to 6 centimorgans. One result of that changed is that my niece no longer shows up as a match to the Ancestry username binmt. The other reporting change is Ancestry is reporting matches using whole numbers, rather than including one decmial point in their reporting. Also note, there was some method to retain those smaller matches. Unfortunately, I did not do that since I had a problem trying to understand the instructions.
